Follow Your Path
Tuesdays are becoming my favorite day. A little bit of this, a little bit of that, and a whole lot of inspiration here at Owning Kristina.

This week’s Guest Blog comes to us from Lindsay, author of the Daily Awe. Lindsay’s story is about listening to that inner voice (she and Oprah call them whispers) and following a path that essentially chooses you. Here’s her story of reinvention and rediscovery.

Where’s There?
Like many little girls, I grew up wanting to be a nurse and a teacher – yep, both at the same time. I was painfully shy and accused of being “too sensitive” by nearly everyone who crossed my path. (I later learned the correct term for what I am is empath). For the most part, I was living in my own little world – daydreaming about the life I would have some day, knowing there was more to life than the day-to-day mundane routine I saw everyone living, yet having no idea how to get there. Wherever there was.

Getting There
And then I arrived. To the “there” so many speak of. I wasn’t the nurse or the teacher I’d dreamt of as a child, but I had my university degree & a full-time job, which was a blessing considering I graduated in the thick of the recession. But most days I would slink down into my chair at work, willing the time to pass by quickly. Going to work every day not only felt like a chore, it felt like it was sucking the life right out of me. I was breathing, but I wasn’t living. What could I do?

Your Dream is (a) Calling
After having only heard about it once before, I signed up for a Reiki course on a whim. Reiki is a complementary therapy for healing both emotional and physical pain. It’s about setting the intention to use the energy around us for someone’s highest good.  To be honest, I’m not really sure how I came to find Reiki. Upon reflection, I think I was drawn to it through divine guidance. It felt like a calling.

With some Reiki education and practice under my belt, I was beginning to feel more alive. But I was still stuck in that pesky, soul-sucking day job. On a whim (starting to notice a pattern to these ‘whims’ of mine?), I decided to create my website The Daily Awe. The intention was to post something daily that would put people in awe or make them say “awww” (astounding creativity, no?).

Putting it all together
I should mention: I’ve always had the ability to be near someone and ‘feel’ where it hurts if they have any physical or emotional pain (hence being deemed “too sensitive” as a child – I was picking up on other people’s stuff too!). During Reiki sessions with clients I began seeing their aura colors and was getting messages and intuitive hits for and about them. When I created The Daily Awe, I had no idea I could do intuitive readings for other people and I hadn’t the slightest clue what to do with being an empath aside from trying to use it to win poker games.  True story! Thanks to my blog, I met a couple of incredible teachers who taught me how to do intuitive readings and how to use my empathic abilities for the greater good.

Happy is What We Make It
If someone had told me even a year ago that I’d be doing intuitive readings for people, I would’ve looked at them like they had two heads. Yet here I am, doing just that. And I couldn’t be happier about it.  In a way, what I am doing now is no different than what I dreamt of as a kid.  I am both a healer and a teacher rolled into one by providing Reiki and intuitive readings. I’m living proof that life changes rapidly when we set the wheels in motion and listen to our intuition – those whims I mentioned earlier.

Most people live and die with their music still unplayed.                     They never dare to try. ~ Mary Kay Ash

People all over the world get up and go to work or school each day, not truly enjoying what they are doing. You are not alone if you are still searching for something better – something more out of life. If this is you, it’s time to trust your intuition, follow your heart and live out your soul purpose. Trust yourself. Take action. Wishing for something – no matter how hard you wish – isn’t enough to make things happen. It is the baby steps we take that add up to the giant leaps of change in our lives.

I will leave you all with some homework: for the next week, listen to your intuition. Take those risks that you’ve been sitting on the fence about – do what you’ve been hesitating to do but know in your heart is right. Sign up for that course. Start writing that book. Call up an old friend. Whatever it is, just do it. Tell us in the comments what you plan on doing, and then come back and share with us what happened as a result. I promise you won’t be disappointed.
